Grandma Alice’s Old Fashioned Meat Loaf

When it comes to “comfort food,” my maternal grandma, Alice, was in complete command. One of her best was an old-fashioned meat loaf. Here it is:

Grandma Alice’s Old Fashioned Meat Loaf:

  • 1/2 lb. beef
  • 2T. flour
  • 1/2 lb. veal
  • 1/4 tsp. sage
  • 1/2 lb pork
  • 3/4 tsp. pepper
  • 2 C bread crumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 2 1/2 tsp.
  • Salt
  • 1 1/2 C. milk
  • 1C. chopped onion
  • 1/4 tsp dry mustard

Grandma used a hand meat grinder to grind all the meat together.  You may either do it yourself or ask the butcher to do it for you.

Combine all ingredients into a loaf pan.  Place strips of bacon on top and bake 1 – 1/2 hrs. at 350 degrees.
