When ‘Something Different’ Isn’t

I started Zuzu’s Petals because I wanted to do Something Different related to blooming in midlife.

Catch: It seems everyone is blogging about midlife. There are some unique voices. But most of the basic elements are the same. Categories that continuously pop up in the 50+ blogosphere:

  • Lifestyle
  • Travel & Leisure
  • Health & Fitness
  • Fitness and Beauty
  • Food & Nutrition
  • Helping you look and feel your best — mind and body — from the inside out.

There’s a lot of redundancy. A lot of trumpeting about blasting through artificially-imposed perceptions of midlife. Crashing through ageist glass ceilings. And so on.

Fine.

But realizing that someone else has already nabbed your ideas and run with ‘em is a little discouraging. Especially when they’re way ahead of you. What can you possibly say that hasn’t already been said, usually 4,937 times, with more panache and a dash of white wine?

So I’m kind of struggling to find my blogging voice here.

Are you a midlife blogger? Have you ever felt this way?
