Dear January:

Paradise Inn at Mount Rainier National Park, WA.

Dear January:

It’s not that we don’t like you. Or appreciate you. You’re a fresh start. A clean slate. You’re ahead of eleven other months. Perched on the cusp a brand new year brimming with promise and potential.

In many places you’re filled with snow. Sledding and skiing and shushing down snow-covered slopes. Bright, crisp skies so blue it hurts to look at them.

You’re wool sweaters and mittens. Steaming mugs of hot cocoa or cider. Glowing fireplaces that snap and chatter as they chase off winter’s chill.

You’re Jack Frost nipping at our nose. Breath exhaling in frosty plumes. Lawns wearing ice pajamas. Rooftops feathered in ice.

But guess what? You’re also getting a bit stale. Curdled. Like a carton of milk that’s been left out on the counter too long.

In other words, January, enough already! It’s not that we don’t like you. It’s just that we’re tired of you.

So. Isn’t it about time you hit the road? Take your final curtain call? As in exit, stage left? Cuz frankly, January, you’re getting a bit long in the tooth. Have over-stayed your welcome. It’s time to move on.

Oh, and one other thing, January. If you need any help packing, holler. Just don’t let the door hitcha on your way out.

Who’s with me? Is it spring yet?
